Running From The Park Rangers.

Thursday, June 15, 2006 was a day to have my bike looked at, ride, relax, and pick up registration. So, I rode to the base area where some really nice mechanic's showed me how to adjust my disc brakes. I was getting a little nervous that my lever was going to hit my bars and I would be all out of brakes. There aren't any of those old school barrell adjusters. Thou it was a quick and some what easy process. They did not even charge me. All I had to do was sign their poster. From there I rolled up on an easy trail hoping to stay tucked in on some single track and out of sight of the Park Rangers. I ended up on the opposite side of the main trails, but started to figure out that I was still within the stupid mountain bike park. There really wasn't anyway around it! I rolled around there for 45 minutes and then came across the Marathon course again. I figured I was safe to ride down the trails, since I would be faster, other Marathoners were doing it yesterday, and I'll just play dumb again. Oops! There they are! I put it in the big ring, sttod up, and started to pedal. Thank god I left my pass on my bike from yesterday and of course they were trying to see the date, but I kept on rolling. I finally made it back to the base area, cleaned my bike, and headed up the hill back home. I decided to keep on riding right pass our place for a longer ride. It was gorgous up there. The houses were cute, lots of land, and everything was so green. Now, I'm sitting around bored, waiting for registration to open, and then I'll be back sitting here bored until bedtime. No, wait! I have more thing...Andy will be calling me soon. Yippy!

Riding In Canada, A!

Today I drove to the grocery store, bank, registration, and then finally got on the bike. My roommate and I rode to the base area to ride the Marathon course backwards. We stopped in at a shop and they gave us a map and some advise on which way to head. Within five minutes or so a park ranger pulled us over for no pass. I guess you need trail passes to ride these trails on the mountain. Well, we tried to ask him which way to head, if we really needed passes, and that we were racing on Saturday, but he still wanted us to pay him $11.50 a piece. Finally, we kept on rolling along a river and hoping to come across a trail up. We never really saw our trail, but then came across a junction that we figured out were to go next. This was how our ride went all day. I guess that's what we get for trying to poach their trails and not being able to read French. We kind of were and kind of not on the right trails. Every so often there were orange flags on the ground and red arrows to our backs. We continued to follow trails up to the main access road to the summit house, which had a great panoramic view of the great outdoors. After enjoying the views and looking at the map on more time we decided to follow the downhill trails down. Again, we got lost and could not stay on the right trails. We went from really rocky trails, to jump ramps, to rooty, rutty, slimy, and muddy trails, to fun, and flat trails. I could not believe it was so hard to stay on a trail or find the right trail. Cross my fingers that Saturday I can stay on the trail and make it back to Mt. St. Anne from Quebec. The rest of today was relaxing or tiring talking and IMing Andy in Japan and catching up on the rest of my blogs. I am so ready to go ride some trails and not get lost.

On My Way To Quebec

Tuesday morning was my turn to head to SFO and hop on a flight to Quebec, Canada. I am getting ready to race the Marathon World Cup at Mount Sainte Anne. On the way to the airport my phone rang. I recognized the foreign number. It was Andy arriving in Japan. Yippy! I talked to him while I parked my car next to his. Too bad we could not have carpooled. O'well, he will be home before me for once and then he's heading racing. So, off I went lugging myself to the airport. I forgot how long it takes to travel East. I did not finally get here until late that night. The drive from Quebec to Mt. St. Anne was along the St. Lawerence River. It was so beautiful and the hills (I guess mountains since they get snow, but they don't quite look that big.) are so green. I could not wait to get out to see and ride the terrain. I will let you know how I do.

Bike Race vs Family

About two weeks ago, Andy's dad had called him up to arrange with him some time to meet up. So, they agreed to do so last weekend, but when we called them up they were busy with work, house, and more work all weekend. Andy and I were racing and BBQ/Bonfire on Saturday and then we were wanting to spend a day together before he flies off to Japan and I fly off to Quebec. Instead, we agreed to take Sunday off, drive to Berekley to meet his dad and Judy for lunch. I spoiled myself with a hamburger, bacon, blue cheese, and I ordered mushrooms, but they never made it to the table. Ummm...Does that sound good or not? After lunch we drove through town over to the Berekley Rose Garden. I remember it being so calming. Then we headed down to San Jose where Em, Cheryl, and Aunt Melody were hanging out with Goldi and Chase. We all hung out in the park for the rest of the afternoon and then headed in and out for dinner. Now, it was getting late and Andy and I had not spent time together all weekend. We still had to get home, clean up dishes, do laundry, and pack for our trips. I did not last very long. I helped Andy with the dishes, but really I only got in the way. Then we did the laundry together. I got ready for bed and asked Andy to call for help, but all I remember was him coming to bed and asking me twice or waking me up twice to get my sweatshirt off. I guess it was a tough day hanging out with the family. Maybe if we went bike racing we would have had more time for eachother and not as tired? Hmmm...Us bike racers have crazy ways of thinking!

Bella Loca and the Wabbit's BBQ and Bonfire

Sarah decided to move out and live in sin with her boyfriend Matt. She decided to plan a ride, BBQ, and Bonfire to say farewell last Saturday, June 10, 2006. Sarah's not moving to far, will continue to work in SC, and plans to move back and bring Matt with her before Cross. I missed out on the earlier festivities of mountain biking through Campus, because I was being a Crit Monkey in the Fremont Celebration Criterium. I had so much fun! I can't wait to do another one or better yet a Cross race. And Andy did not have a bad race either. He jumped out and lead for more than half of the race, winning most of the prizes, and then finsihing strong. After racing, unpacking, cleaning up, eating dinner, and packing up, we heading to the beach. We meet up with the usual crew, ate dinner, had some yummy drinks, roasted marshmellows, ate some more, and hung out to a great bonfire. O'yeah, I can not forget there was a full moon and hugh waves crashing all night. It was a great night, food, drinks, people, and fun! We should plan more nights like that. Thanks Sarah!

Memorial Day Weekend Training/Racing

The week prior I was sicker than a dog. I ended up calling in sick and having someone cover my shift on Friday. Thank God! Last week I could only make it up to work, work all day, and hang out on the couch until Andy came home from work. I felt so bad! I really wanted to nap, clean, cook, and ride, but I did not have enough energy to do so. Once Andy came home we would figure something out for dinner and then he would take me even strolls in the Evo. We drove up, down, and all around the coast. It was so nice to get out and see more than the walls at work and home.

So, Andy went and raced the Mt. Hamilton Road Race. I really wanted to! I was even determined to ride the course. I ended up sleeping in, which was probably a good thing, and went to Ben's to meet up with Kate for a ride. We ended up riding to Sunol and back on Calvaris hoping to meet or run into the boys. Of course they beat us home.

There also was a Crit in Morgan Hill. Andy had invited his mom's side of the family over to hang out on the beach all day. And of course both of us bolted for the race. I rode over Madonna to watch him race. It was a cool finish to watch. With a few laps to go Andy was up front postioning himself, and on the last corner everyone went there own way leaving Andy to jump the gap for second. Congrats! Then it was back to the beach for more sand, wind, burgers, and beer.

Now You Can See Us Everywhere!

Just in case you do not believe that Andy and I riding together, here is a picture that is now being used on Billboards. O'Yeah, the picture is only three years old, but it keeps being used in multiple year catalogs, posters, bulletions, and it was even presented to President Bush in the Oval Office. How funny! What if I was making money off of everyone one of these photo's? Maybe then I could become a real bike racer? Hmmm...
